We realized this was the last vacation we would take for a long time, so we really soaked up the sun, and enjoyed every second of it. In Maui we went to a Luau, went snorkeling and whale watching, watched the sunrise from the summit of Haleakala Volcano, drove the road to Hana, fished in the ocean, ate lots of great food, enjoyed the pools, beach and ocean and so much more!
Here is a picture of the Luau we went to. It was really cool to watch all the different dances, and watch them play with and twirl fire. We also ate some yummy food at the Luau.
This is the view of the sunrise from the top of the volcano.
My husband learned to surf! I didn't get great pictures, but here is one picture.
Alright, now for the yummy, yummy food! Here is a picture of us out for a fancy dinner.
This picture was taken at a restaurant called Pacific'o. It was our favorite meal! Pacific'o is a very nice, expensive restaurant. We typically try to do one fancy dinner out while on vacation and sometimes, you feel like you get your moneys worth and other times you don't. Well, at Pacific'o we felt like we definitely got our moneys worth! We sat outside, and had an awesome view of the ocean, and the food was GREAT!! I had filet mignon it was delicious, cooked perfectly and a good sized portion. It also came with mashed potatoes and vegetables. My husband had their version of surf and turf. It was the same type of steak I had, paired with a lobster tail topped with caviar which also came with the awesome potatoes. Both portions were filling and we loved our meals. We got dessert too! I don't remember exactly what it was called, but it was chocolate and delicious! The service was great as well.
Another place that we ate, that was awesome, was a place called Maui Brewing Co. This was totally right up my hubby's ally. He loves beer, has brewed his own beer, and loves to try local brews. I was expecting this place to be a fun place for him, with bar food. I was SO wrong! Yes it was fun, but the food was awesome!! We started with nachos from the appetizer menu. They were amazing and had tons of toppings. There wasn't one chip that was bare, and they used shredded cheese, not that nasty cheese sauce stuff. So good! Then we decided to have pizza and Brian told me I could order any of the pizzas I wanted and he'd share with me. The pizza I picked was vegetarian. It wasn't just like a veggie pizza, it was like a total hippy pizza. There wasn't even marinara sauce on it. The sauce was like macadamia nut pesto, and the toppings were like mushrooms, zucchini, garlic and sun dried tomatoes. I don't remember exactly what was on it, but it was awesome!! My husband's first reaction was, "What is that on your slice, a lemon?" Ha - it was a slice of yellow zucchini. After he enjoyed his first slice he said, "Why can't we make pizza like this?" It was SO good!!
Two other places that you should try if you ever go to Maui are: Leilani's and Leoda's. Leilani's is right by all the resorts, and on the beach. They have THE BEST fish tacos ever! At Leoda's I had the special which was basically a pulled pork sandwich and it was fantastic! Leoda's is known for their pies. We split a banana cream pie and it was really good.
All in all our trip was so wonderful and relaxing, yet we did a lot and saw a lot. Now we are ready for the next many many years to be filled with paying for kid stuff instead of vacations. We realize our next few years will be filled with vacations to grandma and grandpa's house, and camping trips. Although it's not as relaxing as Maui, it will be a great stage in our lives.
